Vegemite (1923) is an imitation of Marmite (1902) with less flavour to suit the Australian palate. Ozzies don't like strong flavours as it reminds them of 'bush tucker'. Marmite on toast is the perfect companion to English ale whereas Vegemite is probably the perfect companion to that ghastly fizzy yellow stuff the Australians call beer.

After growing up on Vegemite; There is nothing else which compares. Sorry.
Will spread Marmite on toast only under duress.
